Character and Folk Dancing
Here at Slaneyside School of Dance, we’re dedicated to providing our students with a well-rounded dance education, teaching them the roots of certain styles and their country of origin.
We offer both the National (ISTD) and Character Dance (RAD) syllabi, which bring the joy of European Folk Dance to all age levels.
Folk dancing develops a sense of community and awareness of others. It enhances a dancer’s sense of spatial awareness through the use of intricate formations in group dances. It also encompasses many fascinating solo dances, many of which incorporate and develop the use of mime and storytelling – as seen in lots of famous ballets!
Our pupils also have the opportunity to study traditional dances, costumes, music and customs, enriching their dance education.

About Slaneyside School of Dancing
Our character and folk dance class is just one of the lessons provided at our children’s dance academy. Located on the border of County Wexford and County Carlow, our kids dance school takes pride in offering a comprehensive dance education, teaching children aged 3 and above various techniques and skills whilst having lots of fun at the same time.
Children’s folk dancing in particular is all about community with plenty of opportunity for our pupils to dance together whilst learning a bit of history and where certain styles of dance come from. We take pride in the great sense of community we can offer in our children’s dance school, offering opportunity for them to take part in performances, exams and school holiday workshops.
Character and folk dance classes, as with our other lessons are taught by Miss Sam, our highly qualified dance teacher. With many years of experience, she is dedicated to sharing her passion with her pupils developing their hobby.
